I already mentioned in a previous blog post (http://joyelcamps.org/pennsylvania_christian_retreat_center/most-asked-question-summer) that I like questions.
Questions lead to new insights. They also provide significant accountability.
At least once a day a staff member would ask me the question I will share below.
Luis seemed to find me most often, and he would ask with great confidence, “Aaron, what are you memorizing?”
I knew the drill, I would remove my verse pack from my pocket and give it to the questioner. I would seek to share the verse from memory. Sometimes the questioner would offer a few pointers and I would try again. Other times, they would affirm that I knew it well enough to start work on another one.
I saw it happening all around camp. A vast majority of our summer staff members and 4.12 students are committed to the discipline of Scripture memory. And it is powerfully transforming their minds, hearts and in effect their lives.
Just a few days ago, a staff member shared, “The verse pack is awesome. You will review verses that you remember speaking to you in one way at one time, and when you come to them again a year later, they are speaking to you on something completely different.”
Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is– his good, pleasing and perfect will (Romans 12:2.)
Would you like to reap the benefits of memorizing God’s word? Just email me at [email protected] and I will send some simple suggestions that will help you develop this life-transforming habit.
